LIFE LINES
On Taking the Long Way Home
by Maja Apolonia Rodé

All rivers are summoned

by the same and singular power —

relentlessly pulled

down and

in

toward the center of the sphere.

The waters choicelessly take the long way — across.

And thus, the lines of life are drawn

into the sands of

time.

We are streams, each of us,

drawn toward our most essential core,

yet obliged to take a winding path

along the sacred

surface.

The contours

of our lives bear witness

to the beauty and courage

of following the

call

of that which

remains unknown to us

even as it animates our very existence.

The Gravity of Being brings life

to all creation

and

is

the center

to which all things are bound.

Despite our frequent and feeble attempts to

avoid total and complete surrender,

we eventually reach

Ocean,

and become

the communion of

all that finds itself in this world.

And here, still, the mysterious center calls,

forever beckoning itself to itself —

even after we have gone

as far as going

can go.
